O sa fac o lista cu cine as vrea eu sa castige la Oscaruri anul asta:

The Brittish accent Reader and Walküre

Among others, I have seen the past few days two good(but sooo wrong) movies: The Reader with Academy Award winner Kate Winslet and Valkyrie, a WWII realistic movie.

Now, let me say I liked the latter very much, and I appreciated(not liked) the first for it’s quality, but it was not for me…All in all, quality movies. I will not go into each story much as that’s not my purpose.

But WHY? WHY? WHY cast UK’s finest + Tom Cruise the “perfectly capable actor – I would love him if I wouldn’t hate him for being who he is in personal and media/religious life” as essential WWII era nazi german characters???!!

Aren’t there some good german speaking actors?? Is german a forgotten language(by the masses), like, say, Latin? I have no problem with an australian(Russell Crowe) playing a spaniard in Gladiator and speaking english…for me a latin-speaking movie would have been so awkward.

But casting the SO BRITTISH Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson and Tom Cruise with a different US accent at the head of the Nazi coup against Hitler… COME ON!!! Nevermind the physical resemblance, I want german speaking WWII nazis 🙂 I am certain Hitler, Claus von Stauffenberg and the rest of ’em are mumbling curses in their graves 😀

Also, these three fine brittish actors are famous for so different roles. Branagh is a Shakespeare classic in my mind, Tom Wilkinson played very well the gangster boss in Rocknrolla(there he had the right accent) and I could go on with 90% of the cast.

As for The Reader, DOUBLE COME ON! 🙂 Ok, I like Kate Winslet, but she doesn’t make a good analphabet Nazi…sorry, she’s a fine actress, I dig that she likes to be naked on camera(not so sexy as she is a 35 yo mother of two) but she’s born in Reading, Berkshire, England, UK !!! Now, that doesn’t sound very german/nazi, does it? I won’t even begin to say anything about Fiennes…he looks a bit on the flip side to me 😀 I think he could play very well any nationality.

PS: how would you like Flags of our Fathers in Japanese? Or Rio Bravo in native american? with Wes Studi playing instead of John Wayne!?
